A 4K Google Chromebook codenamed “Atlas”

 



  • Chromium Gerrit listed a Chromebook codenamed Atlas with a 4K display resolution.
  • Atlas would be the first ever Chromebook with such a high-resolution display if this happens to be true.
  • Though having a 4K display on a Chromebook might be great, however, what the use of such high resolution.

A 4K display Chromebook is going to be something to behold. As awesome the latest Chromebook, Google Pixelbook is, which features a display higher than Full HD resolution, perhaps the best Chromebook out there, it doesn’t sport a 4K screen.

Initially spotted by a Reddit user, the Chromium Gerrit referenced a device codenamed “Atlas”. This is an upcoming Chromebook whose display’s resolution is 3,840 x 2,160 (4K) as listed on Gerrit. This Chromebook does not feature an SD card slot but it might come with a keyboard, touchpad, and touchscreen. Apart from that, there hasn’t been any more information regarding the Chromebook. The processor, design, specs and features or even if it’s currently being manufactured is unknown. But we do know it’s going to have a 4K and that’s more than enough reason to get most of us excited. But what got us wondering is why pack a Chromebook with such high-resolution display.

Among some school of thought, they think a 4K display might be a little too high for a Chromebook, as it might affect the battery life and make it very expensive.

Graphic designers and gamers are sure to be the target market for 4K display devices. But the lack strong and powerful OS makes Chromebooks unattractive to this audience.

But you cannot deny that a 16:9 aspect ratio on a 4K display will be highly awesome for “Netflix and chill”, and don’t forget YouTube videos. With this much resolution, you operate and view up to 5 windows at once, or even more.
