All HMD’s Nokia smartphones are getting Android P update

HMD Global announced yesterday that all its Nokia branded smartphones, from Nokia 1 to Nokia 8 Sirocco including the newly released Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 5.1, will be getting Android P update.

The announcement was made during the company’s Moscow event where the new Nokia entry-level phones were launched. According to HMD’s global marketing manager, Neil Broadley, this was to show the company’s commitment towards providing a “pure, secure, and up to date” mantra.

The company also made this kind of commitment last year, where it promised to provide speedily Android P update across its first generation mobile platforms – Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and Nokia 8. With this news, we can rest assured that the company will totally deliver on its commitments.

HMD global also confirmed that its Android Go edition smartphones – Nokia 1 and the newly released Nokia 2.1 – including Nokia 2, will be provided with an unnamed OS upgrade, while the Android Go duo will get a streamlined OS upgrade version for low-budget smartphones.

Additionally, HMD’s Nokia branded smartphones running on Android One platform, the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 5.1, and Nokia 3.1, are still within the Google two-year of guaranteed updates for all flagship devices, so they will definitely be getting Android P update.

Finally, during the Moscow event, the CPO of HMD, Juho Sarvikas, made it known that the Nokia Pro Camera mode will be coming to the Nokia 8 with an update that will be released across the mobile platform as from June 1, which is this Friday.

It is great to actually see a company fully committed to delivering on speedy updates, in an area where most OEMs and even the best in the Android space has failed their users.
