Android Os now Powers 36.2% Of Smartphones In Nigeria

 



In August 2014 , Android topped the smartphone chart In Nigeria with 29.94% of the market share. That was the first time the Operating System was ranked number one in Nigeria.

Recent statistics gathered by AndroidNigeria reveals that Android now powers 36.2% of Smartphones in Nigeria. The data was  provided by  Statscounter over a period of 8 months (September 2014 – April 2015).

In the last 8 months , Android experienced an increase of 6.28% from 29.94% to 36.2%. Second on the list is Nokia Series S40 with 27.81%. A certain Os that is “Unknown” has a share of 14.2% while Blackberry , iOS and Windows Phone Occupy 5.65% , 4.18% and 1.44% Respectively.

The statistics above shows that Android is growing at a slow rate in Nigeria. Considering how cheap Android Smartphones are and how much has been spent on advertisement by Brands , one will expect that by now , Android should Occupy at least 50% of the market.

GFK report for March 2015 reveals that 14 out of the 20 best selling Smartphones in March were Android Phones.

It will be interesting to know how long it will take Android to reach 50% mark in Nigeria.
