Google Chrome For Android Hits 1Billion Installs


Google Chrome for Android just reached a major milestone by hitting over 1billion installs , making it then 12th app to cross the billion mark.

Interestly , unlike other Google apps and services that come preinstalled on all Android phones, Chrome did not start out as being a preinstalled app. In 2012 , Chrome started out as an Optional App , available for Android 4.0 ice cream devices and above. Few months later , Chrome was pre-installed (for the first time) on Nexus 7 running Android 4.1 Jellybean. Subsequently , OEMS decided to preinstall Chrome along side thier default browser. The rest is history.

Google chrome officially joins the league of elite apps to cross 1billion installs. These apps includes Gmail , Google Maps , YouTube , Facebook , Google , Google+ , Google Text-to-Speech , WhatsApp Messenger , Google Play Books , Facebook messenger and most recently , Google Hangouts.
