Photo sharing service, Instagram, has reached the 500 million user milestone, this was disclosed in short blog post by on the Instagram official blog. The photo sharing service also disclosed that they added 100 million users over the past nine months, this feat is a replica of their of user add rate for the past one year. Out of the 500 million registered users, Instagram says that they have about 300 million daily users, which is quite an impressive statistics. Although, when compared to Instagram’s counterparts such as its parent company Facebook and messaging service, Whatsapp, Instagram can be best described in Nigeria’s pidgin language ‘as learner wey dey try’ (a beginner in the numbers game). Facebook commands over 1.6 billion daily users and Whatsapp trails with 1 billion daily users.
Instagram is home to a slew of celebrities from musicians to thespians to show hosts to Models to Fashion designers and folks who have a circle they influence. The photo sharing service has not peaked yet, so it will be interesting to see what direction they move in over the coming years. Already, they have introduced some changes to service, such as the Instagram video series, there also is the proposed switch from chronological news feed to algorithm, which will mean that pictures and post of people you follow won’t appear in the order it was posted, rather it will appear based on the closeness or relationship you share with the individual.
