Microsoft’s new Mimicker alarm app, wakes you up with challenges.

Microsoft has released a new alarm application for Android, currently available on Google PlayStore. This new alarm app can be described as odd, in terms of its method of getting a sleepyhead to rise and shine.

The application requires its users to perform one of three tasks before the alarm is turned off. These task include; match the expression, capture the color, complete the tongue twister, or you can shuffle between all three. Well, as you can see this task cannot be performed by an individual that is still slipping in and out of dream land.

However, the designers of the The Mimicker Alarm, as it is called, ensured you don’t get pissed off by these task or the alarm. According to Allison Light, a Project Oxford program manager, “We’re a lot nicer than other alarms,” . “You start with dismiss or snooze. If you snooze, the default is five minutes to delay the game. If you dismiss, we mute the alarm – but then you have 30 seconds to complete this challenge. And if you don’t complete that game in time, we assume you’ve fallen back asleep and then the alarm will start ringing again. You only need to complete one game to shut off the alarm. You can choose the sounds and which games you want to play.”

Project Oxford is a joint project of Microsoft and University of Oxford, it serves as a platform for artificial intelligence APIs. The Mimicker Alarm, “Its one example of how Microsoft is democratizing artificial intelligence and pursuing its vision for more personal computing experiences using systems that are progressing toward seeing, hearing, speaking and understanding the complex nature of human interaction”, according to Allison Light.
