There have been high expectations for the Snapdragon 710 chipset since Qualcomm announced the upcoming release of its Snapdragon 700 mobile platform series back in February. The Snapdragon 710 which is the first of the series has just been launched by Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform which sits between the mid-range Snapdragon 660, and the high-end Snapdragon 835 and 845, is designed to bring premium smartphone functions down to mid-range devices.
The SoC comes with the Kryo 360 CPU which is designed with two 2.2GHz ARM Cortex-A75 cores for performance and six 1.7GHz ARM Cortex-A55 cores for efficiency. This will offer 25% increase in web browsing, 20% overall increase in performance and a 15% increase in app load times when compared to Snapdragon 660.
The Snapdragon 710 promises a better overall AI performance such as depth sensing for portrait mode shots with faux bokeh and stronger image processing with the ability to perform multi-frame noise reduction in images. The chipset will be able to deliver 40% reduction in power consumption compared to the Snapdragon 660, with added support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology which offers about 50% power within 15 minutes of charging.
With its Adreno 616 GPU, the new SoC will be able to provide a top-notch gaming experience with 35% faster graphics rendering, using a small amount of power. This may likely be due to the increasing numbers of game developers working in collaboration with Qualcomm.
The Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Neural Processing SDK will provide OEMs with opportunities to fully utilize AI capabilities in their hardware, with access to frameworks such as Google’s TensorFlow and Facebook’s Caffe.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 710 is already available, and the first set of devices will be released in the coming weeks. It’s now left for manufacturers to fully utilize this technology in their devices.
