Update: rumours surrounding the memory, dual cameras, iris scanner, dedicated AI button, f/1.5 aperture camera, notch, design and pricing

In recent weeks, there have been different rumours from different sources about the upcoming LG flagship, LG G7, named LG G7 ThinQ. The smart phone is supposed to be a follow-up of LG G6 released last year, but according to the ongoing rumours, it may actually be the first of a new line of LG smartphones.

With the official unveiling of the LG G7 ThinQ already upon us, more leaks on the LG flagship has continued to pop-up.

April 24, 2018 — G7 ThinQ renders shows a dedicated AI button and an adherence to the age-old sound connection

The reputable serial leaker, Evan Blass never disappoint us with leaks on major smartphone brands.  He trends once more in the mobile space with more details about the upcoming LG flagship.
From the render photos, you can spot a bottom headphone jack, which shows the company is not leaving the age old connection to join the likes of iPhone in using the ear-pod.LG G7 ThinQ

The renders also shows a rear positioned fingerprint sensor, dual-camera with led flash, a notch and a dedicated AI button at the left.

It seems LG is following the likes of Samsung to include an AI button. The button is dedicated to launching a virtual assistant — Google Assistant — since LG don’t have a virtual assistant and are not in the process of developing one yet.

Specs and Features

With the LG G7 featuring the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset as opposed to last year when LG G6 featured an older chipset, there actually would not  be any increase in both the RAM and internal memory. The LG G7 is set to come with a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage like its predecessor, LG G6.

The smartphone may sport a dual camera system like most flagship phones released now except the Huawei P20 Pro of course. The dual camera system features 16MP sensors with f/1.6 lenses, and comes with AI features like the ones on LG V3. The LG G7 is also expected to have HDR imaging, an IP68 rating for protection against water and dust and stereo speakers. According to rumours, the phone may make use wireless charging but nothing has been said about it being available globally or exclusive to the US alone like in LG G6.

The LG G7 may probably feature a fingerprint scanner plus iris scanner as an extra method of security, which is a first for LG. This is based on the leaked iris scanner patent which was spotted by LetsGoDigital. According to information on the patent, the scanner can work under any lighting conditions by adjusting to allow for variations in pupil size and may actually be more advanced than that in Samsung.

The smartphone will run on Android Oreo and is expected to have an expandable storage, a wide f/1.5 aperture camera and a dedicated AI button right below the volume keys according to reports by a Korean source. These specs are certainly exciting although it is unconfirmed, we cannot help but imagine the user experience this device will offer users. That said, we will have to keep anticipating until the official day when the device is launched.

LG G7: Design

According to reports coming from Venturebeat, LG G7 will sport a totally different design from its predecessor, and this might be correct. During the MWC 2018, some certain attendees were given a private early view of the upcoming flagship phone by LG itself. Although the pictures taken of the smartphone was very blurry and unclear, TechnoBuffalo with the aid of the designer Ben Geskin developed something that might be close to the actual LG G7 design. LG has not yet released anything on its upcoming flagship design but various reports and rumours all seem to tend towards this same design. For now, we can chill and watch as all these unfold.LG G7- Ben Geskin

The alleged design images show the G7 will have thinner bezels and may feature a notch similar to the one on iPhone X. The rear side is made of glass and sports a vertically placed dual-camera system which is different from the horizontal one in G6 with a fingerprint sensor. LG G7- Ben Geskin

Although the design of the G7 is quite okay, LG copied so much from iPhone X that it will hardly stand out in the smartphone market, considering there are also many phones companies that are copying the iPhone X design. But then again, these are only rumours, the design may actually be different from this.

Late last month, the company created a poll on Reddit to gauge users’ reaction about the notch. As expected, the results were quite negative, which led to LG deleting the thread a few hours later. If LG has already made up its mind about the notch, then it may not receive much public acceptance, which is bad for a company that is losing money every quarter.

Pricing

Reports coming from ETnews suggests that the G7 may cost between $700 to $800 (N252,000 to N288,000), depending on the retailer. In comparison, Samsung Galaxy S9 costs $720 (259,200), while Galaxy S9+ cost $840 (302,400).

These are all the rumours we’ve on LG upcoming flagship.  We will update this page as we come across more rumours and reports.
