Samsung Galaxy Note 9 may be officially released on August 9

The official release date of Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has been pushed by two months. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the new addition to the Galaxy Note line-up will be made official during the Samsung “Unpacked” press event in New York City on August 9. This “Unpacked” press event is coming earlier than the one in which Galaxy Note 8 was launched back in 2017.

The report further stated that the Note 9 will sport an upgraded camera, and also an upgraded Qualcomm processor. The report didn’t dive into the details of these features, but considering the Snapdragon SoC most 2018 flagship phones run on, we can safely assume that the Note 9 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 under the hood, which is an upgrade over Galaxy Note 8 Snapdragon 835.

We can’t say much for the camera specs, but we expect a dual rear camera setup and some of the major features of the Galaxy S9 series. The report made note of the sales date as sometime at the end of August, but this is yet to be fully confirmed by Samsung as it’s likely to change.

This report is coming after an unconfirmed rumour that was released earlier this week. The rumour stated that the release of Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be delayed due to an order by the Vice Chairman of Samsung, Lee Jae-yong, calling for changes to the phone’s design.

The changes to be made was a reduction in the thickness of the front glass that protects the OLED display by 0.5mm. The initial glass thickness was about 1.5 mm thicker than Galaxy Note 8. This call for changes was due to the trip that Lee made to China in May to check out the company’s major competitors.

According to reports, the vice chairman was taken aback by the hand-feel of Oppo and Vivo flagship devices that use Samsung’s OLED displays. Thereafter ordering for immediate changes to be made when he came back from the trip.
