Samsung Electronics announced its readiness to be the first in the industry to begin manufacturing microchips of RAM LPDDR5 DRAM for 8-gigabit. In the manufacture of the chips, a 10-nanometer technology was used, and their development was completed back in April this year. The new memory modules will find their application in smartphones that support artificial intelligence and 5G networks. In addition to mobile devices, the chips can be installed in machine learning systems and media centers in cars.
LPDDR5 DRAM microchips will be released in two versions; one will offer a transfer rate of 5500 Mbit / s (voltage 1.05 V) and a second 6400 Mbit / s (voltage 1.1 V). The developers emphasize that the microchips are energy efficient and will reduce energy consumption by up to 30%, which will positively affect the functioning of the devices. Samsung stated that the improved performance was made possible thanks to several architectural improvements, in particular, the number of memory banks doubled (from 8 to 16). The mass production of LPDDR5 DRAM microchips will begin when the market will generate sufficient demand for them.
