Samsung working on new tablet with AMOLED 2560×1600 display

Samsung has been working on a tablet with a Super AMOLED display as a followup to its first and only AMOLED tablet, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 from 2011, and we just received information that work on the new tablet is underway in full swing. We can confirm that the tablet will come in Wi-Fi, 3G and LTE variants (model numbers SM-T800, SM-T801, and SM-T805) as was hinted in an earlier leak, and the display resolution will be 2560×1600 pixels (which is backed by the user agent string for the SM-T800 on Samsung’s website), same as the recently released Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO tablets.

The screen size is unknown, though it could be anywhere between an 8-inch or 10-inch screen according to previous rumors. The tablet will be powered by a processor in the Exynos 5 series, and run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, with the company’s usual TouchWiz overlay including the Magazine UX. Samsung is testing some Galaxy S5 features on the AMOLED tablet, like the Ultra Power Saving Mode function, which saves battery life by disabling things like background data, color output of the display, and more, which should be particularly helpful given the type of display.

Like the TabPRO and NotePRO tablets, the new AMOLED tablet will be priced pretty high and could act as Samsung’s flagship tablet upon launch. An AMOLED tablet from Samsung has been highly anticipated by consumers, so we can expect the company to make it as good as it possibly can, and we’ll be sure to let you guys know when we run across more details, such as the release date and other specs.
