The first Snapdragon 710-powered smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, unveiled


Apart from the Xiaomi Mi 8 and MI 8 Explorer Edition, the Chinese company also released another smartphone at its event, today. The device which is another variant of MI 8. The Xiaomi MI 8 SE (Special Edition) took everyone by surprise, as no one expected Xiaomi to release three devices in one day, but they did. The MI 8 SE is not anything like its name suggests. It is actually a cheaper and smaller version of MI 8 with some high-end features and a glass back.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE sports a 5.88-inch screen, while still retaining the MI 8 Super AMOLED display with FHD+ 1080 x 2244 pixels resolution. The phone still sports the MI 8 notch, though it lacks the cool 3D face unlock of its bigger brother. The phone’s display has a thin bezel around it, giving it an 86.12% front coverage. The screen also comes with DCI-P3 colour gamut support and 600 nits peak brightness for better use in the day. Xiaomi MI 8 SE In terms of power, the MI 8 SE comes with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset under the hood. The SoC was announced a week ago for use in upper mid-range smartphones. It offers a 30% reduction in battery consumption in comparison to 660, and 20% increase in performance. The MI 8 SE is the first device to run on this platform.

At the back of the phone is dual camera setup which includes a 12MP primary sensor with a 5MP secondary shooter for depth information. Just like in the MI 8, the camera on Xiaomi MI 8 SE features AI-enhanced portrait mode, beautification and scene recognition. The front selfie camera is a 20MP snapper.Xiaomi MI 8 SE The device is powered by a 3,120 mAh battery with 18W Quick Charge 3.0 and USB-C port. The Xiaomi MI 8 SE is available in two variants, based on memory size, a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage variant, and a bigger 6GB of RAM and 64GB of memory.

The smaller memory model is priced at CNY 1,799 (N101,500) and the bigger one at CNY 1,999 (N112,500). The global launch date or when it will be available in the Chinese market is yet to be announced.
