Instagram will adopt the two-factor authentication to increase account security. Two-factor authentication will create another layer of security for users given the addition of their mobile numbers. The mobile number is for instances when your account is being breached by a hacker, Instagram will then send you a security code to confirm the identity of the person trying to log-in.
The security code will be much like the one sent by Google when login into your gmail account from an unrecognized device or unfamiliar location. Chances are that this new feature will come with a calling authentication like Gmail, Facebook and other popular social network.
This new security update by Instagram is late relative to other social media sites that have adopted two-factor authentication long before now, given the increasing importance of securing social media accounts from hackers.
That said, we won’t be seeing the security update immediately on all devices. The security update isn’t the latest feature Instagram has added to increase the safety and productivity of IG users, other features that have being recently added to the social network include; a video view count which will allow an easy rating on a videos popularity, as well as a multiple account access through one Instagram app.
