Vivo Y83 unveiled with MediaTek Helio P22 chipset, notched 6.22 HD+ display and face recognition


While the whole android market was still agog with the news of the release of HTC U12 Plus, the Chinese tech company, Vivo, quietly launched its mid-ranger – Vivo Y83. The smartphone features the new MediaTek Helio P22 chipset which announced earlier this week and it became the first smartphone to run on Helio P22 platform.

The Vivo Y83 is not behind when it comes to design. It has a premium unibody metal design with a rear mirror finish and glossy coating. It has an edge-to-edge display design with no chin at the lower side.

It features a tall slim bezel 6.22-inch HD+ display with 720 x 1520 pixel resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The resolution is unlike the ones seen in most phones but it appears to be a Vivo “thing”. The company also copied its Chinese counterpart, OnePlus, in adopting the notch.Vivo Y83Under the hood, the Vivo Y83 runs on the new MediaTek Helio P22 SoC with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The chipset comes with support for TensorFlow and neural networking. There is also 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB through microSD card.

The smartphone shows no indication of sporting a fingerprint sensor or iris scanner technology, instead it went for face recognition technology.Vivo Y83 unveiled with MediaTek Helio P22 chipset, notched 6.22 HD+ display and face recognition 2In the camera section, there is a single 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 lens and LED flash. An 8MP selfie shooter can be spotted at the front in the notch with f/2.2 lens and AI beautification mode.
The Vivo Y83 will run on Funtouch 4.0 OS which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and powered by a 3,260 mAh battery. It will be available in three colours – Aurora White, Polar Black and Red.
