When Facebook purchased Whats App for $19Billion in February , a lot of people felt it was overpriced and Mark should have gone for a lesser price.
Fast forward 6months from February, Whatsapp now has over 600million monthly active users , making it the most used chat messenger in the world. This figure means that 8% of the world’s population is very active on Whatsapp.
Whatsapp’s Co-Founder , Jan Koum confirmed this via a tweet on twitter. See tweet below :
Now serving 600,000,000 monthly active users. Yes, active and registered are very different types of numbers…

This figure left me wondering what happened to BBM. Asides Whatsapp , Wechat Is the second most used chat messenger with 438 million monthly active users and Viber is third with 100 million(Where on earth is BBM?) Is BBM Dying?
Only Time will tell.
However , in terms of revenue , Whatsapp isn’t making as much money as everyone will expect. The only inflow of money is the $0.99 annual renewal fee users pay for the app which some users still manage to evade by evil methods.
