Xiaomi Mi A1, the sequel has been leaked alongside a Redmi Android One smartphone


It was just last week when Xiaomi announced the release of Mi 6X to the Chinese market. Now, according to a report from XDA, the Chinese tech company is already in production for two new Android One smartphones. One of the smartphones might be Xiaomi Mi A2, a re-branded model of Xiaomi Mi 6X, which will continue the tradition of Mi 5X and its re-branded variant, Mi A1. The other phone is expected to be an Android One based phone addition to the Xiaomi Redmi’s family. These speculations were based on the leaked firmware files of the devices.

According to the firmware files, one of the devices was codenamed “jasmine_sprout” which is similar to the codename of Mi A1 “tissot_sprout”. It was also discovered that the device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, which is the same chipset in Xiaomi Mi 6X, and it will run on Android 8.1 Oreo with Project Treble support and the latest security update. These give us a real reason to believe that this device may be a new variant of Xiaomi Mi 6X and a follow-up of Mi A1.

That aside, the firmware files also made mention of another Android One smartphone, which is codenamed “daisy_sprout.” It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, which is less powerful than that in jasmine_sprout. The chipset is the same as the one in Mi A1 and possibly also be the one in the recently leaked Xiaomi Redmi S2. Lei Jen, the CEO of Xiaomi did allude a few weeks ago that they are planning on adding an Android One phone to the Redmi family. There is a possibility that this may be a Redmi phone, which is based on Redmi S2.

Aside from the leaked firmware files, there hasn’t been any other information or confirmation on these devices, but hopefully, new reports are set to surface soon.
