Xiaomi is definitely one of the fast rising OEM’s in China. The company have been able to rack up an impressive sales record since they started shipping devices, and they are not resting on their oars. News coming from China states that Xiaomi plans on launching its own processor line called ‘rifle’. Rifle processors are targeted at the low-end – mid-end smart phones.
According to our news source, there have been a surging growth in the demand for low and mid-end smartphones in some of the worlds largest markets, China and India. This demand has created a demand for cheap and viable processors, that provide affordability and functionality for consumers. Xiaomi hopes to capture this market with its ‘Rifle’ processors. According to reports, this new processor will be announced in an upcoming Xiaomi event, in May; most likely at the launching event of the Xiaomi Max and talk band, which is set for 10 May.
If the launch of rifle processors is successful, it will induct Xiaomi into the growing list of top OEM’s who source part of their processors in house. This move will definitely help save cost for Xiaomi and open a new money making channel for the Chinese company. Going forward, we should witness a reduction in the cost of Xaiomi low and mid-end smartphones. It will also be interesting to see how Samsung and Qualcomm respond to the competition created by this upcoming processor manufacturer.
